"Keep Quiet" by Lisa Scottoline is One We Both Liked (UPDATED)

Keep Quiet by Lisa Scottoline is a good book because the family it is about has likeable characters that I could easily identify with.  When the dad who is trying to get closer to his teenage son uses poor judgment by acting like a friend rather than a responsible parent, it starts a whirlwind of trouble.  This book is about how far parents will go to protect their loved ones and how things aren't always as bad as they may seem.  Although I liked the ending, it seemed too neat and not very believable.

I loved this book because it moved along quickly and held my interest all through.  I couldn't help but ask myself what I would do in their situation and was pleasantly surprised by the ending.

In this novel, a father looks to have bonding time with his son, but a tragic accident brings them together like never before. This is a real page turner with very good twists and turns that I did not see coming. It goes fast and it does not take long to get hooked into it. Lisa always puts out great books and this one is no exception! Do not miss it!

"The Silver Donkey" by Sonya Hartnett (Updated)

The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett with illustrations by Don Powers is juvenile historical fiction about two young girls who befriend a soldier they come across in the woods near their home.  He is blind and needs to get home to his sick brother.  This is a wonderful book for all ages, young and old.  I got into it right away and the stories that the soldier tells the young girls are really, really good!  This is the kind of book you could read again and again!  That being said, it is my book of the month so far for June.  LOVED IT!

I thought The Silver donkey by Sonya Hartnett was okay.  I enjoyed the stories about donkeys that the soldier told the kids.  The soldier becomes blind because he's seen so many terrible things in the war and decides to just go home so he winds up in some woods where two little girls find him. They help him and he tells them stories about a donkey and shows them his little silver donkey good luck charm.  The girls get their brother to help them think how to help the soldier get home.

Wynne's War by Aaron Gwyn Starts Slow but Picks Up

Wynne’s War by Aaron Gwyn is a novel about a group of American soldiers and the captain who leads them who go on horseback to fight the Taliban.  It starts out a little slow but when it picks up, it gets really good so stick with it.  The ending is a twist that I did not see coming.  I enjoyed it and if you are into this kind of novel, I am sure you will enjoy it too!

Tuesday Teasers: Four Today

Gerard's:
He could see its lashes.  The horse seemed to b staring straight at him, and before he'd lowered his weapon he knew what he was going do, and if it didn't get him killed, he couldn't imagine what would.

From page 2 of Wynne's War by Aaron Gwyn. ("was going do," is not a typo, that is how it appears in the book)

The older girl, whose name was Marcelle, imagined her brother's face when he heard the news.  She brimmed suddenly with anticipation and glee.
From page 3 of The Silver Donkey by Sonya Hartnett.  (Juvenile historical fiction)
Karen's:
They were bound together not only by blood and love, but by guilt and lies.  They were father and son, but they were also partners in crime.
Ironically, they had never been closer.
From page 99 of Keep Quiet by Lisa Scottoline.

"I bent down to pick up the paper and stood in horror as I read his note, barely legible yet startlingly clear in what he was trying to convey.  I saw two words I never believed would come from Duane."
From p. 75 (Loc. 1302-4) Seven Patients by Atul Kumar

My Reading Companion

Manny Boy likes to come on my lap to read along with me.  I just started Keep Quiet by Lisa Scottoline yesterday and am already into it and looking forward to reading more today.  This was Gerard's favorite for May.  My favorite read in May was Now You See Her by James Patterson.

Do you have any cats who enjoy reading with you?

Happy Reading!  Purrr!
